Greetings From The Principal The Oral Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program is located on the campus of Los Alamitos Elementary (LAE) School in Los Alamitos. There are approximately 38 children in the program ranging from 3 years of age through 6th grade.
Communication is taught through lip-reading, development of listening skills, expressive and receptive language skills and speech. Amplification is provided by the use of individual hearing aids and the use of FM auditory trainers during classroom lessons.
Our Kindergarten through 5th grade students are integrated into the general education classes at LAE for PE, art, music, computer lab and academics areas (when appropriate). Our 6th grade students attend McAuliffe Middle School for their mainstreaming where they have the opportunity to attend choir, art, keyboarding, drama and their PE classes.
Our curriculum is aligned with that of Los Alamitos School District with the exception of the reading curriculum. The reading curriculum adopted better meets the needs of our students as it is a direct instruction program supplemented by a specialized language program.
Our staff includes an on site principal, 7 master degree teachers, a full time speech therapist, a part-time audiologist, and 6 paraeducators.
To schedule a visit, please call the number above. We would be happy to provide you with a tour of the program and answer any questions you may have.
For placement of students residing outside of Orange County, please call Larry Belkin, Chief of Special Education at (714) 996-4130. |
